Abstract

March 2, 2010

The Meghdoot is an epic poem of over one hundred stanzas by Kalidas that describes human emotions, meteorological conditions, botanical and natural riches of the country. Kalidas was a court poet for Vikramaditya, Gupta Emperor in the Fifth Century AD. Thus far, the poem has been represented throughout the centuries in a language that addresses the higher and educated classes, by classical arts or translations which were meant for scholars. My thesis will bring this treasure by using combination of digital tools and multimedia that depicts the Kavad folk art folding boxes as a narrative structure to the common people of every class. my target audience are average Indian people from age 20-35 who are also the audience of bollywood. The beautiful and aesthetic description of the meteorological information and beauty of India in form of folk art, will instill them with cultural pride and awareness and encourage them to learn more about classic literature.

Elevator Pitch

February 9, 2010

My animation is an exploration and an attempt to bring, 1500 years old Meghdoot a poem written only for the royals and scholars to the common people of India by using narrative structure of a Indin folk art. Motive is to translate the poem into a visual language that is understandable  by everyone.

My primary target audience are Indian designers and artists who are 25-35 years old, as they are the interpreters between a common Indian public and other literatures like Meghdoot.

My secondary audience are the common people of India , who don’t know anything about the poem, but can learn through my piece. These are the people who should be benefited through my thesis, if it is successful. As they will be able to witness more works of art which is according
to their understanding.
